Nurturing Tenacity and Resilience: A Lifelong Gift for Our Young Children

In his talk, Dr. Brooks will identify the key components of resilience and tenacity, together with specific strategies that parents, teachers, and other caregivers can use to reinforce these components in young children. He will describe that the rudimentary qualities of tenacity, which include such attributes as optimism, intrinsic motivation, altruism, empathy, and compassion, are already present at birth. He will highlight the critical role played by adults in a young child’s world to nurture these attributes and help pave the way for a more satisfying, caring, hopeful, and resilient life.
